Background
Omega Sigma Tau picked up the Little Tokyo Recreation Center as its official philanthropy group. Our role is to fund raise and build awareness for its cause. Imagine a state-of-the-art sports complex in the heart of Los Angeles, designed to accommodate basketball, volleyball, social service programs, and special events throughout the year. Imagine a premier venue for martial arts in the United States, hosting tournaments with thousands of participants from across the country. Imagine scores of new visitors from across Southern California arriving each year, enjoying this sports complex along with the many sights and sounds of a revitalized downtown Los Angeles. For more than four decades, such a facility has been the hope of a neighborhood and a generation, the long-sought dream of the Little Tokyo community. With the recent city approval to finally construct the Budokan of Los Angeles (BoLA), the vision is closer than ever to becoming a reality.

How we got involved
Omegas are committed to community involvement, as such we have multiple service events throughout the year. For a couple of years now we have had annual services with the Little Tokyo community that include the Nisei Week Parade, Japan Expo, San Tai San Basketball Tournament, and Christmas Caroling for Japanese Retirement homes.
In 2005, one of the members of Omega Sigma Tau was heavily involved with the dance community as well as the fraternity and its cause while he was at UCLA. To bridge the gap between our cause and the dance scene, the story behind Battle Royale unfolded. This is our biggest service project that happens once a year during the Spring. Proceeds from the money we raise for Battle Royale go towards funding for the construction of the Little Tokyo Recreation Center. The event has been successful in building awareness for the rec center’s cause.
