Battle Royale is one of the biggest events hosted by a student organization on the UCLA campus, Omega Sigma Tau, that showcases four dance teams that originated from our campus. People not from only UCLA, but all over Southern California come to see ACA Hip Hop, NSU Modern, and Samahang Modern battle it out for the Battle Royale Belt and the title as UCLA’s best dance crew. We also showcase an exhibition performance from UCLA’s newest up and coming dance crew, D.S.C., comprised of both current UCLA students and alumni. In the past, there has been over 1,400 attendees with celebrity judges such as Yuri Tag of Kaba Modern and Taeko Carroll of Fysh N Chicks.

Background

One of the members of Omega Sigma Tau was heavily involved in the dance community as well as the fraternity and its cause while at UCLA. To bridge the gap between our cause and the dance scene, the competition was created to crown the best dance crew at UCLA as well as raise funds to support our philanthropy. Omega Sigma Tau prides itself for being an Asian-American interest student organization that gives back to the Asian-American community. Thus in 2005 we started our biggest service project, Battle Royale, which has been going on for 5 years, its currently aimed at fundraising and collecting sponsorship for construction of the Little Tokyo Recreation Center.
